Every generation has musical anthems that reflect their time, empower human hearts and inspire millions, in the hopes of creating a brighter day and a better, more peaceful and loving world. It’s now been over 30 years since Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote, and Quincy Jones produced, the chart-topping, all-star “We Are The World” in support of USA for Africa famine relief. Reaching back a bit further, it’s been 45 years since The New Seekers adapted a famous Coca-Cola commercial which taught “the world to sing in perfect harmony.” The song “I’d like to teach the World to Sing” transcended its original purpose as an advertising jingle while translating the feeling of promise for one global human race. The same year, John Lennon transfixed the world with “Imagine,” his haunting ballad for peace. Later in the 70’s, reggae legend Bob Marley lifted us with his beautiful and lilting “One Love.”
Like no other art form, music has the universal capacity to ignite generations, transform hearts and inspire positive, hopeful thoughts and actions that collectively drive us to move toward a superior and more enlightened tomorrow. With greater awareness, positive changes can occur. Music has a way of bringing people together in a spirit of love, kindness, charity, service and cooperation. Now is the time for our voices to inspire a whole new generation with a vision of a fresh new tomorrow.
